How To Make Volunteerism Count | Children’s Nonprofit Charity Atlanta

We all know how vital volunteerism is to our community and world as a whole, but deciding how and why to get involved can be more difficult. Most people consider volunteering a positive thing in general. Still, some of us can feel hesitant to volunteer for a number of reasons including, time restrictions, money limitations and social anxiety. Another reason many of us don’t volunteer is simply because we are unsure if what would do really matters. So how can you make sure your volunteerism counts for something real? Here’s a few things to consider while you are going through this soul searching process…

CONSIDER HOW THE CHARITABLE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED: You want to know the percentage of funds that actually go to those they are supporting, do they assist people in a improving their lives so they don’t need ongoing assistance and are they reputable in their local community.

PRAY ON IT: When considering volunteering for a cause, one of the best things you can do is to pray on it. Ask for diving guidance in your decision and then be ready and obedient when your prayer is answered.

PUT YOURSELF IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES: Even though your life may be fine and you have an abundance of all you need and more, tomorrow’s prosperity is not promised. Anyone of us could depend on someone else’s charity tomorrow for our very survival. When considering volunteering, imagine yourself in the same situation as those you would be serving. Determine how grateful and relieved you would be if you were to receive the charitable services offered.

As a community, a nation and world, we are strongest when we band together. Volunteering for a reputable and effective nonprofit is a great way to build a better and stronger world.  If you are interested in volunteering for Praying for Our Children, contact us today. We welcome and appreciate any and all support. Even if you don't volunteer for us, consider volunteering for a cause you believe in.

How To Get Your Child Interested In Prayer | Prayer Line

Prayer is so powerful. Many adults who have prayed steadfast for decades and witnessed firsthand the grace and healing power it has already understand the importance of daily prayer. Our children are another story though. They may not see the value of praying daily and centering themselves spiritually.  Here are a few things you can try to help your child become more interested in prayer.

PRAY WITH THEM: Whether your child will admit it or not, you are influential in their life and an example. Take the time to pray with them daily. You can keep the prayers short and sweet to start and introduce longer, more engaging prayers as their interest in prayer grows.

HAVE THEM WRITE THEIR OWN PRAYER: Encourage them to write a prayer of their own. Allow them the freedom to create it all on their own, in their own words. Then type up their prayer, frame it and place it prominently in your home.

BUY THEM A PRAYER BOOK:  Having a prayer book all their own can be helpful. They will have lots of prayers to choose from and can select their favorites.  Read some of the prayers with them and discuss the meaning of the prayers with your child.

DISCUSS YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE POWER OF PRAYER: Share your personal testimony with your child.  Tell them how prayer has changed your life and give specific examples.
Helping your child appreciate the power of prayer is a valuable gift.

Share, explore and be the example for your child. Prayer can be a healing and bonding experience that you and your child can share together.  You and your child can also join us for our monthly prayer call, First Tuesdays, that we have the 1st Tuesday of each month.

Tips For Communicating With Your Child | Praying For Our Children Prayer Services

As children grow up, in many cases communication can become more and more difficult between parent and child.  Don’t give up though. Silence will only deepen the issues and resentment. Communicating the right way can help to dramatically turn around your relationship with your child. Of course there is no silver bullet to having the perfect relationship with your child and everyone communicates differently, but here are a few tips that may help you improve your communication skills when it comes to your child.

BE AN ACTIVE LISTENER: Your child is trying to tell you something with all their verbal and nonverbal communication, but may be struggling to tell you their “real” underlying concern. So listen to everything your child is telling your from the way they stand, what makes them angry, the type of movies and music they like to the actual words they are saying.  When you do talk one on one, make them feel safe. Be quiet when they are talking. Be attentive and not simply act like you are just anxiously awaiting your turn to say something back.

DON’T JUDGE THEM AS A PERSON: When you put things in terms of them being “good” or “bad” your child may not want to share things with you that they think you judge to be “bad”. They don’t want you to think of them as a “bad” person or kid. Try to phrase behaviors (never them as a person) as “unhealthy” or “unproductive”, always reinforcing that they are valuable and loved unconditionally, but may need to work on their decision making and/or self esteem to promote more positive and healthy outcomes in life.

MAKE AN EFFORT TO CONNECT: You may have to step out of your comfort zone to connect with your child. Watch a TV show with them they like or watch a music video they enjoy with them. Cook them their favorite dinner for no reason at all and ask them to help you prepare it.   Create spaces and moments that are relaxed in nature to just talk and enjoy each other’s company. As trust builds,  the communication will usually begin to improve naturally.

PRAY TOGETHER: Prayer builds trust, bonds, spirituality and love.  By praying together or even holding hands in prayer, you can help your parent child relationship transcend the physical world into the much more powerful world of spirit and soul.  These types of connects are the foundation for all others.

If you have tried all these things and still have serious communication problems, you may want to try professional counseling, the counsel of a trusted religious leader in your community or support groups. Also continually pray for your child’s well being, peace of mind, health and happiness… it is a powerful source of help!  Praying For Our Children also hosts an annual camp for single parents to help restore their relationships with their child. Start a P4C Chapter in Your Area | Children’s Nonprofit Charity

Do you ever feel like many of our children are headed in the wrong direction?  Have you ever seen a child struggling and you just wanted to reach out and help them? Do you feel as though you want to make a difference in the world, but don’t know how? Well, maybe starting a Praying For Our Children (P4C) Chapter is perfect for you.

P4C’s dedication to children and family goes beyond our foundation of prayer and extends to service and action in our local communities, as well as around the world.  Praying for Our Children stays focused on our mission and offers programs specifically designed to promote strong & healthy families, support for parents, prayer services and mission trips that serve deprived communities in other countries.

By starting your own local chapter, you can extend our charitable works and better the lives of children and families in your very own community.  It is the goal of Praying For Our Children to have a chapter in every community across the world. Each chapter will receive guided support and access to the Praying For Our Children community, as well as other resources to influence positive outcomes in the lives of children and families. If this sounds like something you may be interested in, it is simpler than you think to get a chapter going.  You can start by calling or emailing us for more information.  You may also fill out our convenient online registration form and take that first step to making your community and the world a better place.

Why Do Grassroots Nonprofits Struggle For Survival?

When I started Praying For Our Children, it was to establish a day of intercessory prayer for our children. This simple mission grew into an expanded organization that offers prayer groups, international mission trips, Camp P.R.A.Y. and support services. Though our mission is altruistic, financial support has been hard to come by, so I began to wonder why and explored this thought more.

I thought about how quickly someone accused of crime, large corp. structured charities (with high paid CEOs), or causes attached to a famous face can raise thousands or even millions of dollars so quickly.  This lead me to reflect on the “true values” of the society in which we live. Unfortunately, the picture that started to become more and more clear wasn't a very pretty one. We live in a society dominated by a focus on fame, status, recognition and reward.  So when a small grassroots organization tries to amass support and funds, it becomes a serious uphill battle as we have no fame, status or reward to offer. We can only offer our humble gratitude and promise to use what is donated to better the lives of families and children.

As a society plagued with violence, family breakdown and materialism, we must find our way back to the simpler things… love, family, service and prayer.  Our focus and consciousness must shift so we see the immense value of supporting those in need around us without any recognition or reward.. We are so grateful to those who have supported us through the years and those who will support us in the future, but simply want to bring light to the way so many small nonprofits struggle for mere survival (even though they shouldn’t have to).

The Benefits Of Camp P.R.A.Y.

Family serves as our core unit of connection, fulfillment and love in so many ways. When family bonds become strained, it can leave us feeling hurt, estranged and overwhelmed.  Restoring healthy family relationships is so important. A family that functions in harmony is paramount to every family member’s spiritual and emotional well being.  Camp P.R.A.Y. is all about family unity, cooperation and cohesion.

Camp P.R.A.Y. is a 7-day retreat for both parent and child that give them an opportunity to reconnect. During the camp, discussions are held to address family dynamics, improve communication and reestablish healthy parent-child relationships. As a part of the Camp P.R.A.Y. experience, fun outdoor activities are designed to both challenge and excite both parent and child.  We also include spiritual exercises, meditation, nature walks and financial fitness classes. Ultimately, the parent/child union is strengthened and family wholeness begins the restoration process. When you take this journey with us, a transformed life waits for you at the end of it.

Camp P.R.A.Y. is a unique combination of prayer camp, faith camp and family camp. We are now accepting applications for our upcoming camp July 14 – 21 at Cohutta Springs (http://cohuttasprings.com/). Click this link to learn more http://www.prayingforourchildren.org/camp_p_r_a_y_.html.

The Benefits Of A Prayer Blanket

Children are so vulnerable to the negativity and spiritual depravity that society surrounds them with. They need the loving adults in their lives to constantly protect them physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Prayer blankets play an important role in their spiritual protection. There are many benefits to “covering” your baby in prayer by swaddling them daily in a prayer blanket, including:

PRAYER BLANKETS ARE A TANGIBLE EXPRESSION OF PRAYER: When you have a special blanket that represents your child’s spiritual connection to both you and their Creator, it can bring you both closer and enhance your spiritual bond.

PRAYER BLANKETS SERVE AS A REMINDER TO PRAY: Sometimes between changing diapers and warming bottles we can forget to take a moment daily (or multiple times a day) to simply pray.  Praying for our children provides them with the spiritual protection and armor they need.

PRAYER BLANKETS SOOTHE THE CHILD: The blanket itself with become a warm reminder to your child of the safety, love and grace they feel when you are praying for them.

Keep your infant covered in prayer. Our “Keep Me Covered” Campaign is a service to families to invite prayer into their daily lives. We invite churches, mosques, synagogues, other religious institutions, and individuals to participate in our "Keep Me Covered” Campaign.  Our Prayer  blanket is a symbol of what it means to be covered with prayer. It provides protection, comfort, warmth and security. In 2013, let's make sure every infant we know is covered.
